Our Story
Hi, we’re Monrique and Ruben, a South African couple, teachers, travellers and storytellers currently living in South Korea.
Our story started, fittingly, with a little bit of serendipity. We first crossed paths at a music festival in 2021, went our separate ways, and somehow found each other again six months later. By the following year, we were officially a couple, and it didn’t take long to discover that we shared more than a love for each other. We both had a deep curiosity about the world and a desire to experience more of it.
Since then, travel has become one of the biggest parts of our story.
We moved across the world to South Korea, built a life here and started sharing the adventures we found along the way. We’ve explored mountains, islands, temples, cities and hidden corners of Asia, all while working full-time and trying to squeeze our creative lives into whatever hours were left.
Eventually, we started asking ourselves a bigger question:
What if life didn’t have to be so full?
We love what we create, but we’ve also realised that building a life around full-time work and a growing creative project can leave very little space for the things that make life feel meaningful in the first place.
So we’re beginning to explore a different way of living. More time. More creativity. More travel. More freedom. We don’t have the whole plan figured out yet, but that’s exactly what makes this next chapter worth documenting.
Karmic Steps is our way of sharing that journey honestly: the places we discover, the adventures we take, the things we learn and the realities of trying to build a life around travel and creativity.
We’re figuring it out one step at a time.
Until the next step.
